One Year Post Surgery

One year ago today we were waking up very early in a hotel room in L.A. and taking our sweet girl to Cedars Sinai for her kidney surgery. We were both so anxious we could barely muster up a few words to each other, and I remember other people in the waiting room giving us sympathetic glances because our little patient was the youngest one there for surgery that day, by at least 2 decades.

Pre-Surgery

The entire staff at Cedars was amazing, especially B's urologist Dr. Duell. She was only in the O.R. for an hour and a half, but it was easily the longest hour and a half of my life. Thankfully someone had warned me that when babies come out of anesthesia they are upset. Even though the nurses placed her in my arms while she was still sleeping, B woke up angry, in pain, and scared. Forty five minutes later she woke up again, but this time she was calm and subdued. After a couple hours we were able to bring her home.

Coming out of anesthesia

Super puffy from the i.v. fluids, but happy to be heading home!

Thanks to our awesome team of Drs. and nurses, B's been uti, antibiotic, and catheter-free for one year. I am beyond thankful and grateful for this past year of health, and we're all looking forward to many, many more.
